Betty I Benton

Orwell—Betty I. Benton, age 98, died at her home peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, with her family at her side. She was the daughter of John and Cora Phelps born on May 15, 1925, in Williamsfield, Ohio.  She graduated from Williamsfield School.  On April 1, 1944, she married Carl Benton. They had two children, Alfred and Carla.  They were married for 65 years before Carl’s passing in 2009. Betty worked at National Acme in Jefferson for 16 years before retiring in 1984. She loved working in her flower garden, doing crafts, playing cards, watching the birds and most of all the joy of watching her six grandchildren and her 12 great grandchildren playing sports. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Orwell for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cora Phelps, her sister, Claribel McMillan, brothers: Howard Phelps, Ellsworth Phelps, Hallie Phelps, Donovan Phelps, Delos Phelps and Leroy Phelps and her son-in-law, Tom Henson. She is survived by her children Alfred (Karen) Benton and Carla Henson, wonderful nephews Ed Benton and Ray (Marquita) Benton, grandchildren: Allen Benton, Kim Triskett, Jodi Lucas, Kelly Henson, Krystal Force and Angela Thomas, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services officiated by Rev.  Sandy Seaton-Todd will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076. A private burial of her ashes will be held at the Orwell North Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2024 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orwell Country Neighbor Program, P.O.
